Our 2024 Presentation Night was held on Friday 20th September in the Function Room with the Bob Segrave Award and the John Dumaresq Award presented at the beginning of the night – a change from previous years.
The Bob Segrave Award is presented to a member who has provided the Club with outstanding service, on or off the field, over a significant period. Our 2024 Bob Segrave Award winner was Bryce Dowler.
Bryce returned in 2021 after a stint with his home club, having already played around 70 games for La Trobe. In a video interview at the time he commented that he wanted to repay the club for the welcoming environment it provided to him in his younger years. Over the last four years he has done so with interest. He has emerged as an on field leader with his football experience, and a potent key forward capable of multiple goals, and a key premiership player. He has become an off field leader as well, based on his down to earth, welcoming personality and his ability to relate to so many of the young players from similar backgrounds. He has worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and led from the front at so many of our social functions, while knowing how to control the crowd and when to call time. A true character of the club, Bryce follows his brother Grant who won the same award in 2016.
The John Dumaresq Award is presented to the person/s who has made a great contribution to the Club during the current year. Our John Dumaresq Award winner was Jess Lowry.
Jess has established herself on field over the last few years, but in 2024 she took on the off field challenge of our social media, and has taken it to an entirely new level. With her friendly and outgoing personality she was able to engage with every part of the club and in turn provide relevant and engaging updates, via video and interviews. The result of her efforts was a community better engaged and connected than it has ever been. In addition she has stepped forward and demonstrated both leadership and empathy when circumstances required. Jess is a very worthy winner of the John Dumaresq Award for 2024.
