Match Summary
The Senior Men travelled to Elgar Park to take on Box Hill North as they looked to build on last week’s win and make it two from as many games. It was a big lead into the game with the team celebrating our co-captains’ Sam Benetti-Baker (100 games) and Connor McCredden (50 games) significant milestones.
The boys were very slow out of the gate and The Demons got the jump on them in the first quarter keeping the Trobers goalless and kicking 4 of their own to lead by 23 points at the end of the quarter. The boys needed to bounce back and bounce back they did after some stern words delivered by stand-in coach Leigh Carlson at the quarter time break.
Our midfielders Jonty Randall, BB and Jackson Gronow were getting to work, setting the tone for the quarter and creating more opportunities for the forwards. Jade ‘Rusty’ Russell got the boys rolling with our first major and then the main man of the day BB kicked our second of the quarter as all the boys got around him to celebrate. The back 6, led by Luke Vaughan and Connor McCredden, were well on top of their opponents and providing plenty of rebound from our back half. Bailey Timms was helping out Hugo O’Callaghan in the ruck and playing a great game and giving his all! Sam ‘Scoob’ O’Donnell kicked the next two as we took the lead and Indy Williamson kicked his first goal for the club to give the boys a lead of 10 points at half time.
The 3rd quarter was once again all the home team as they kicked another 4 goals to La Trobe’s wasteful 1.3. The boys showed plenty of fight in the last, and when Mitch Collins kicked the first goal of the quarter it was all tied up. However, Box Hill North kicked the next which put them up by 8 points. Indy Williamson converted a left foot snap from a tight angle in the pocket and it was once again all even, then The Demons kicked the last two of the game to run away 12-point winners. The tight margin reflected the importance of every contest from the opening minute, and making the most of each scoring opportunity – lessons to be learnt for the future.
Best players on the day were Connor McCredden, Hugo O’Callaghan, Jonty Randall, Luke Vaughan, Bailey Timms, Jackson Gronow. Scoob and Indy kicked 2 apiece and BB, Jade, Tiz and Mitch kicked 1 goal each.

Match Summary
Round 2 saw the Trober women travel to Pitcher Park to take on Parkside in what turned out to be a great 10 minutes of footy that won La Trobe the game. The girls also welcomed another Trober in Ash Crane, making her debut in this round.
It was a scrappy low-scoring affair — the kind of game where nothing came easy — but the team dug deep and found a way. With a wet and soggy ground, chances were few and far between. Early on, the pressure was high, and the first goal came from a clean break inside 50 from Ineka Hart, a much-needed settler in a tight contest.
There were standout moments all over the ground. Thara Sar was relentless with her tackling, setting the tone with pressure acts that turned the momentum, even kicking what was a brilliant goal – a snap from the boundary. Teresa D’Angelo played through obvious pain, staying involved and even hitting the scoreboard in a moment that lifted everyone around her.
Kate Bond was a stand out all day, kicking a goal and picking up the opposition’s best on ground medal, for Tackle Your Feelings Round. When the game was on the line, it came down to composure. Once the girls hit the scoreboard early in the 4th. It was about holding strong — desperate defending, repeated efforts, and smart decisions under fatigue that sealed the win.
Stephanie Castagnini, Kate Bond, Phoebe Radford, Thara Sar, Kaitlyn Ritchie and Courtney Donoghue were named in the best players.

Match Summary
The Midday Show was on the road again as the travelled to Elgar Park to take on Box Hill North. Always a tough and hard-fought contest the Trobers knew they would need to bring the intensity and pressure to knock off The Demons. There was also an excitement amongst the playing group as co-coach Callum ‘Cal’ Randell made his long-awaited return after having his season cut short last year.
La Trobe were able to control the ball early in the opening term, and the goals flowed with James ‘Driff’ Driffield snagging two, Cal also slotting a pair, with help from Mitch Wallace and Cam ‘Suga’ Marcroft also kicking majors which helped La Trobe out to a 33-point lead.
The second term saw the momentum swing back to the home side, as they started to get first use out of the midfield and converted that into scoreboard pressure. Our Back Six, led by Mark ‘Mobbla’ O’Brien, fought valiantly throughout the quarter but were overwhelmed at times due to the amount of forward entries Box Hill were able to gain. La Trobe did manage to kick a couple of goals against the tide, with James Driffield and Mitch Wallace kicking truly to help the Trobers maintain an 11-point half-time lead.
The messaging out of the half-time break was to return to the disciplined and hard-running football that allowed the Trobers to get on top in the first quarter. And the Trobers responded as they started the 3rd term strongly with the mid-field of Ruben Cottee, Lachlan Randall and Lachlan Pike beginning to win the ball at the stoppages, and that first use would allow La Trobe to hit the scoreboard. The scoring was started by skipper Ben Freeman who kicked a near-impossible check-side goal from the boundary, Cal Randell added 2 more to take his total to 4, and ‘Driff’ kicked his 4th. Trobers went into the final break with a 22-point advantage.
The final term would see much of the same from La Trobe, with Dylan Mitchell and Jayden Jacobson running hard up and down the Elgar Park wings creating multiple forward entries. Some recipients of their hard work were debutant Alex Crockford who kicked his first goal in the Black & Red, Ruben Cottee slotted a fantastic running goal and co-coach Cal wasn’t done with 4 as he added 3 more goals to take his total for the match to 7 majors. La Trobe ran out 36-point winners at the final siren.
