Match Summary
It was time for the women to take on Old Carey in the Preliminary Final at Coburg City Oval. The Trober women had not beaten Old Carey in the four meetings they have had over the past 2 seasons however, there was a quiet confidence in the week leading up to this game.
Captain Jess ‘JLo’ Lowry once again lead from the front, taking on an opponent in the ruck who was about 1 metre taller than her. Despite the height difference, the mids seemed to be on top of the midfield battle all day. Territory was the focus for the day and we executed it extremely well. You could tell all of the Trobers were switched on from the first bounce, not giving their opponents an inch, attacking the ball extremely hard, getting to the ball first and getting a stoppage where necessary. There were no goals kicked in the first quarter, despite the Trobers having the ball in their half for the majority of the quarter.
In the second quarter, the dominance continued and Teresa ‘Swifty’ D’Angelo managed to kick our first major of the game. We went into halftime with a 1.2 to 0.0 lead. The backline was once again solid all day, only allowing 1 major to be scored across the 4 quarters. With sheer pressure, the goals started to come easier with Swifty, Jasmine Smith and Thara Sar all kicking majors in the 3rd quarter to send us into the final quarter with the score being 4.3 to 1.0. Claire Wilson kicked our only major for the 4th quarter and we took out a huge 27 point win to extend our season for one more week and look forward to going one step further than last year.
Overall, it was a massive four quarter effort from all 22 players. Everyone played their role, left everything out on the field and just showed how capable we are to go win a flag next week!

Match Summary
The Trobers headed off to Martin Reserve, Hadfield to take on fierce rivals Albert Park in the D3 Reserves First Semi-Final starting at the earlier time of 9:20a.m!
With wet and windy conditions, the pre-game messaging from the coaching staff was to attack the ball hard, get in first and gain forward momentum at every opportunity.
Albert Park started strongly kicking the first goal of the game in the opening minutes, but that would be their last goal the Trobers would allow for the rest of the day. Brodie McDermott carried his strong late season form into finals kicking La Trobe’s first major for the day. Fellow midfield beast Brandon Grech also kicked truly, but the goal of the day went to wingman Dylan Mitchell who ran onto an Austin Bennett centering ball, kicking it off the ground and adding another 6 points for the Good Guys. La Trobe entered quarter time with a 13 point lead and all the momentum.
The second term saw much of the same as retiring La Trobe veteran Ernie Fan got the ball rolling kicking the first for the term, Ernie added another 2 goals before the halftime siren to give him 3 for the day. Leading from the front La Trobe Reserves Captain Austin Bennett converted to extend the La Trobe advantage to 37 points at half-time.
The half-time messaging was to understand that the job was only half done and to maintain the pressure and intensity around the contest.
The third term was a 25 minute arm wrestle as both sides fought all over the ground for supremacy. Whilst the Trobers were unable to score, a strong performance from the back six, led by Josh Horder and Mark O’Brien, held The Falcons to 2 points for the quarter. Our Trobers ended the “Premiership quarter” leading by 35 points.
The final quarter saw much the same from La Trobe as they showed grit and determination all across Martin Reserve, refusing to let Albert Park have any uncontested footy. A fantastic rove and snap from Elliot Stevenson and a strong set shot conversion from Mitch Collins saw La Trobe extended their lead to 48 points, as they booked their spot in next week’s Preliminary Final against Richmond Central.
