Match Summary
The LTUFC Senior Men took the trek down to Jordan Reserve on Saturday to take on Chadstone and there was plenty excitement in the air with 3 debutants in Jackson Gronow, Indy Williamson and Toby Herbert who all have slotted in seamlessly to the Senior side after joining the Trobers this year. The boys also wanted to start the year off on the right foot and get an early win on the board.
There was a fair breeze blowing to one end and when Connor ‘Turtle’ McCredden won the toss the boys kicked with it to start the game. Jonty ‘Bull’ Randall was given the job in the ruck and proved he was up for the challenge from the first ball-up. Our midfielders Sam Benetti-Baker, Indy Williamson, Jackson Gronow and wings Adrian Marulli and Liam Walsh were winning plenty of ball and creating inside 50 opportunities. Some early inaccuracy was improved with Tate Spiteri’s first major followed by coach Andy Castles marking strongly and slotting our second for the term. We led 2.4-16 to 0 at quarter time and had full control of the contest.
During the second term into the wind the boys sharpened up their skills and were a lot cleaner delivering the footy inside 50. Tirian ‘Tiz’ Hillman copped one high during an inside 50 marking contest, passed to Bull who had drifted forward and our third goal was on the board. Walshy and Tiz added majors while our backline, led by Toby Herbert, Nich Simons and Turtle kept the home team to just 3 behinds for the half. At the main break it was 5.5-35 to 0.3-3 – a lead of 32 points.
After the main break the boys continued their domination kicking 3.4 with majors to Toby Herbert, Tiz and Spitta which gave them a 42-point lead going into the last quarter. It didn’t stop there as they kept the pressure on Chadstone and ended up winning by 57 points. Tiz was the dominant forward slotting 4 majors and could have had more, Walshy Snr, Spitta and Mitch Collins all kicked 2 apiece with Bull, Josh Guy, Cas kicking 1 each as well as Toby Herbert kicking his first goal for the club.
Jonty Randall, Jack Miller, Jackson Gronow, Tirian Hillman, Will Barnes, and Connor McCredden were the best players for the day.

Match Summary
After a lengthy pre-season and practice matches, Round 1 finally arrived on Saturday, with the Senior Women kicking off what was a great weekend for the club. The girls travelled to A G Gillon Oval to take on Brunswick and with 6 players making their La Trobe debut the vibe was definitely present! Congratulations and welcome to Trober Town Sophie Bates Schilling, Taylah McCrae, Phoebe Radford (yet another of our wonderful trainers pulling on the boots!), Emily Sutherland, Claire Wilson and Matilda Wilson.
It was a great start to the game with Kate ‘Bondy’ Bond chucking one on the boot and Ineka ‘Harty’ Hart, giving it the extra push through the posts, for La Trobe’s first goal of the season. Debutant Claire ‘Clairebear’ Wilson was dominant in the forward line all day and claimed her first goal for the club.
Strong form continued for both Bondy and Harty as they finished with 1 and 2 goals respectively. Thara Sar also found the middle of the sticks, for her first major of the season. The mid-field and wings worked tirelessly all morning linking together the rest of the field, ensuring the team implemented the plans developed throughout pre-season by coach Samantha Greene.
The back line, led by Kaitlyn ‘Ritchie’ Ritchie and Courtney ‘Court’ Donoghue, was strong all day, holding Brunswick to just 2 majors.
The women finished the morning with a 23-point win over Brunswick, 5.8-38 to 2.3-15, to set up what was to be a great day for La Trobe footy!
Best players for the day went to Kate Bond, Kaitlyn Ritchie, Ineka Hart, Jessica Lowry, Stephanie Castagnini and Charlotte Croome.

Match Summary
The Reserves kicked off season 2025 playing away against Chadstone at Jordan Reserve. The Trobers saw 8 players making their La Trobe Football Club debut. Congratulations and welcome to James Boussounis, Kyle Brizzi, James Driffield, Campbell Luck, Brodie McDermott, Ben Peters, Elliot Stevenson and Ned Uren.
Some injuries and absences saw our vice-captain Ben Freeman taking the reins. Freo won the toss, and La Trobe kicked with a strong breeze in the opening term. Some strong play early and plenty of forward entries allowed Ben Morse to kick truly for our first goal of the day, with first gamer James Driffield slotting his first in the Black & Red soon after, before Morsey kicked his second for the term. Some strong work through the middle from debutant Elliot Stevenson helped Mitch Wallace hit the scoreboard, before a free kick on the siren presented Lachy Randall with an opportunity to extend the lead. Plenty of opportunities, but some wayward kicking, saw the Trobers enter the quarter-time break with a 38-point lead.
Chadstone kicked with the breeze in the second term and despite some strong work from the La Trobe defence, Chadstone were able to slot 4 goals straight for the term. The Trobers did have their fair share of the ball during the quarter and were able to get the ball forward, but some inaccurate kicking saw La Trobe unable to capitalise kicking only 4 behinds for the term. Our lads went into the rooms at half-time with an 18-point lead.
The message from Coach Mick Correnti and his assistant Cal Randell out of half-time was to lift the intensity around the ball and to tighten up in the back half. And tighten up the defence they did as they would only allow the home side another 4 points for the remainder of the match.
The third quarter saw The Midday Show once again control the ball across the ground with Dylan Mitchell, Lachlan Pike and Cam McPherson getting back on top through the midfield, with Pikey also drifting forward to kick a major. And speaking of drifting forward, James ‘Driff’ Driffield kicked his second for the game during the term as well as the Trobers finished the Premiership quarter with a 30-point lead.
As the final term began the players were reminded to continue to run hard and finish the game strongly. With our back 6, led by debutants Campbell Luck, Ben Peters and Ned Uren, constantly rebounding Chadstone’s attacking play and creating options for our forwards. The forwards in question who managed to take advantage were ‘Morsey’ and ‘Driff’ who both kicked their third goal each for the game. Bryce ‘Bruce’ Dowler and ‘Guido’ Magnus also kicked truly to open their accounts for season 2025. Trobers ran out 56-point winners at the final siren and sang the song with gusto in the rooms afterwards!
