Match Summary
The Senior Men faced another top line contender in Richmond Central on their home deck with several players promoted from the Reserves to cover for a number of injuries and unavailable players. Coach Andy Castles challenged the players in what was sure to be a tough contest and would’ve been pleased with the opening phase of the game as the Trobers looked like they were in for the fight. Tate Spiteri kicked truly for the Trobers opening goal and Indy Williamson was winning plenty of contested ball and added a second major. The Snakes discipline and overlap running saw them take control in the latter stages of the quarter as they were able to create numerous opportunities for their forwards. Ruckman Hugo O’Callaghan, who has been in top form during the season, rolled his ankle which was a big blow but this created an opportunity for Cam Marcroft to step up and take on the ruck duties with Josh Horder also helping out. Late goals to the home team saw the Trobers trailing by 21 points at the first break – 5.4 – 34 to 2.1 – 13.
Richmond Central continued in much the same vein winning contested ball and running in numbers to create plenty of inside 50’s. Indy Williamson added his second goal but The Snakes had stretched the lead to 40 points at the main break.
The second half saw The Snakes kick the opening 3 goals in quick succession before Spitta added his second and Tiz Hillman guided his first through the big sticks but the home team had added another 6 majors straight to lead by 64 points at three quarter time. The message in the huddle was to finish strongly and aim to win the quarter.
La Trobe were up for the challenge as they kicked the first 2 goals for the quarter, with Spitta adding his third and Andy Castles slotting his first. Further inside 50’s resulted in Trober behinds before The Snakes got into the quarter and kicked their first major. In what turned out to be La Trobe’s best quarter, the home side just managed to outscore them by a couple of behinds and stretch the final margin to 66 points.

La Trobe Women’s team suffered a narrow defeat against second-placed Parkside at Tony Sheehan Oval, falling short by just three points; 2.6.18 to 3.3.21. Despite a spirited performance, the Trobers were unable to capitalise on scoring opportunities, which ultimately proved decisive in the game’s outcome.
Trailing 20–10 at halftime, La Trobe mounted a determined comeback in the second half. The midfield, anchored by the dynamic D’Angelo sisters—Teresa and Makayla—worked tirelessly to gain ascendancy, consistently driving the ball forward and applying pressure on Parkside’s defence. Captain Jess Lowry led by example, orchestrating plays and motivating her teammates throughout the match.
Defensively, Kaitlyn Ritchie and Phoebe Radford stood out, effectively repelling numerous Parkside advances and keeping the Trobers within striking distance. Their efforts were instrumental in limiting the visitor’s scoring opportunities and maintaining the team’s competitiveness throughout the match.
Despite the loss, the narrow margin against a top-tier opponent underscores La Trobe’s potential and competitiveness in the league. With continued dedication and improvement, the Trobers are well-positioned to bounce back strongly in their next fixture.

Match Summary
The Midday Show headed to Kevin Bartlett Reserve to take on Richmond Central Snakes. A combination of injuries and Uni holidays saw the playing group head to the midseason draft, with a few of the players calling in favours to help us get a full side. Even co-coach Mick Correnti came out of retirement, pulling on the boots for the first time in 12 years!
The lads battled hard all day, but a well drilled Richmond Central made it tough for La Trobe to get any momentum going.
Thanks to some strong work in the midfield from mid-season recruit Brandon Grech setting up fellow mid-season recruit Jack Crowe, who kicked our first goal of the day. La Trobe trailed by 15 points at the end of the first term.
The second term saw much the same as the first, the Trobers worked hard but The Snakes continued to take advantage of any La Trobe errors and turned them into goals. That being said, there was also some positive play as Brandon Grech was all across the ground contesting hard and winning the footy. Also some strong play saw Bryce Dowler take a strong contested mark up forward and kick truly from 50m. As half time rolled around the Trobers were 44 points in arrears.
The messaging from the coaching staff out of halftime was to keep up the fight and not allow Richmond to have it on their own terms.
Skipper Austin Bennett continued his strong season, being a thorn in the side of The Snakes, wining his own pill and taking massive contested marks all over the ground. The third term saw the Trobers kick their third goal for the game, co-coach Mick Correnti took an uncontested mark well outside his kicking range, before a wayward Richmond Central player wandered through the mark, giving Mick a 50m penalty and one of the easiest shots at goal you’ll ever see as he shot from the goal line, and thankfully kicked truly. The three quarter time break saw The Snakes leading by 71 points.
The final term continued in the same vein as the first three. The highlight being Bryce Dowler kicking his second goal thanks to a beautiful pass from Jack Crowe. Ryan Cole continued his strong one out battle in the ruck against two much larger opponents, and Finlay Stewart finished off his strong 4 quarter performance in defence. Fin’s run, tackling and pressure in the back half was credit to his self discipline to never give up the contest. La Trobe lost the game by 110 points and now look to getting back on the winning list at home next week against Eley Park.
