Round 13 Match Reports (2025)

The Trober women headed out to Wantirna to play Aquinas for the third time this season, in what was a last-minute scheduled game.

You will struggle to find a pregame with more buzz than the morning of our Annual Ball and this weekend was no exception. The smell of fake tan in the changerooms and the sight of fresh nails and lashes meant we could look even better playing football than we usually do. It was a dry morning from the get go, which is not something we are treated to very often. The first quarter started off as a tight contest as we started against the wind. The backline were put under pressure early but as always, they held up incredibly strong. After 10 minutes of play, we found our first major through Claire Wilson working hard to receive a hand ball over the top in the goal square. A couple of minutes later, Jess Lowry got rewarded with a holding the ball free kick, which she then went back and slotted a classy goal from a tough angle and distance. To finish off the quarter, Charlotte Croome got a free kick, 20 metres in front of goal, just prior to the siren. For context, Charlotte played her 74th game for the club yesterday and one thing that everyone was well aware of was that she had never kicked a goal. She went back after the siren and slotted the goal and every single player got around her to celebrate the milestone (YAY Char!! We’ll miss you. Enjoy Europe!)

We continued to build in the second quarter with Swifty kicking a beautiful snap from the boundary to add our 4th goal for the game. The next goal, you wouldn’t believe it, came from Char and we went into half time with a 34-point lead. Unfortunately for Aquinas, the Trober women weren’t prepared to take the foot off the accelerator and would continue to add goals onto our tally. Swift got rewarded for a run-down tackle and she went back and slotted her 2nd goal for the game. Nat Cappelletti also joined the party with a goal after she got reward for her great positioning where she was on the end of an Ella Lauritsen bullet inside 50.

Ineka Hart worked really hard all day, with strong leads, loud voice and really impressive marking. Her highlight was taking on about 5 players and wheeling around onto her right foot to kick a goal from what felt like 40 metres out. And even Andy Sutherland can be heard on the film chuckling, “that’s a highlight reel, that one”. Issie Warrillow decided to join the goal kicking party and slotted one of her own. What a pity Grace Lambert was the only one who didn’t celebrate with you, Issie!

Editor – And Bondy is far too modest to report that she also kicked 2 goals in her long awaited return game from injury!

After only beating Aquinas 15-12 the last time we played them on their home deck, it was nice to take out a comprehensive 78 to 3 win with 8 different goal kickers and another solid whole team performance.

We now look to UHS-VU at home after next week’s bye.
