Match Summary

After a two week break it was back to Tony Sheehan Oval for our Round 14 clash with Eley Park Sharks. With plenty of players returning, our boys were ready for their five-week block to finish the season but unfortunately Eley Park forfeited the reserves. The day, however, featured many stories.

Matt Ogle made his long-awaited return from an ACL injury to put on a show in just two and a half quarters of footy bagging himself seven majors at full forward. Harry Tanner made his debut for the club as he also came off a long ACL injury comeback and proved he will be a valuable addition to the red and black. Nathan Richardson returned from a couple of months on the sidelines as well, with Joey De Angelis also back into the Ones.

With our women putting up a competitive fight to finish their season and a great turn out of past players and families on the balcony, it was time for our senior men to put on a show. From the get-go the game was on our terms with clean delivery inside 50 to the big man who was clunking everything. The new hairdo was doing Archie Conboy wonders as he slotted an early goal from the midfield and the clearance specialist Lachlan Webb returning after a month back home slotted a nice banana on the run to get himself straight back into it.  The quarter time scoreboard read 9.5 (59) to Eley Park 0.0 (0) putting us in the box seat for another big percentage boosting win.

While the ball didn’t move into Eley Park’s forward half too often, it was Will Lowry and Connor McCredden ensuring it would be rebounding straight back out most times. Sam Benetti-Baker was solid in the contest and enjoyed the extra pace his bright white boots have been providing him to break free with clearances. Tyler Costa was doing his thing at ground level and even managed a few shots on goal before steering through his first senior goal later in the game. With a 99-point lead at the half a few magnets were shifted meaning the milestone man Mark Mobla O’Brien, who was playing his 100th game, found himself in the forward line for the second half. While he didn’t finish off with a goal, he was able to set up a couple.

Running out 178-point winners, including seven unanswered last quarter goals despite only having 17 players on the ground, our boys putting on a show for the day including: a Riley The WizAlexander one hand contested mark, a little hanger from Harry Tanner, and a few bags with Matt Ogle kicking seven majors, Riley Alexander five, Josh Rogerson five and Tate Spiteri four. We now set ourselves up for a competitive run home with Swinburne (3rd), Albert Park (5th), Box Hill North (7th) and St Johns (2nd) to finish off our home and away season.

A big thank you to all the Trobers that come out to watch and those who organised Family, Friends and Past Players Day!
