Match Summary
The La Trobe Senior Men were at home for the last time this year as they took on Richmond Central in what was a cracking winter’s day for footy. The visitors kicked the first goal of the game, but Tate Spiteri hit back to tie the scores inside the first 6 minutes. We then missed some very gettable shots on goal and Richmond kicked one late in the first to lead by 8 points at quarter time.
Beau Lawrence kicked the first of his two goals in the opening minute of the second quarter and another in the 10th minute to give the boys the lead heading into half time as both teams struggled for accuracy in front of the big sticks. La Trobe with their noses in front at the main break – 3.5 to 2.9.
The third quarter was very back and forth, after Richmond regained the lead inside the first minute, but Jade Russell kicked a major as we took the lead. The Snakes then kicked 3 of the last 4 goals of the quarter to give them a 14-point buffer heading into the final change.
Richmond’s charge continued as they kicked the first two goals of the last to stretch their lead to 27 points, but the boys responded with the next two through Lachlan Webb and Spitta added his second for the day, but the visitors added the sealer a minute later as the boys lost 7.8 (50) to 10.18 (78). Best players were Simo, Webby, BB, Bull, X and Silk. Ranga and Spitta kicked two goals each while BB, Webby and Rusty kicked one each.

Match Summary
Round 16 saw the women celebrate Jess Rogers in her 100th game with the La Trobe Uni Football Club, making her the third woman to reach this milestone this season! The side was able to deliver a commanding performance and outclass Brunswick to secure a memorable victory for JR and end the home and away season on a high.
Marleigh “Merl” Andrews was set for a perla game after getting the Trobers started on the scoreboard. She continued to produce a fine performance all day long, being a strong marking target for the side and finding plenty of the pill.
Kate “Bondy” Bond continued to keep the Trobers alive in the second quarter and she teamed well with Jess “JLo” Lowry at a ruck contest in the forward 50, where she broke free and slotted one straight through the big ones. Thara Sar also added to the Trobers total as she broke away from the pack and let loose from 40 meters out to bounce one straight over the goal umpire’s head.
On the wing, Ella Lauritsen was a standout for the side as she produced great connection down the field. She used her speed and skill to outplay her opponent all day.
The fourth quarter saw the Trober women show no mercy towards their opponent. An elite clearance from the first ball up saw the Sherrin move swiftly into their forward half, where Eve Conlan was able to finish off with a major score in the first 25 seconds of the final quarter.
The day was almost perfectly rounded out for milestone girl Jess Rogers when she lined up for a set shot on goal in the final quarter. Everyone held their breath as she took her kick, but it wasn’t to be. Goal umpire Connor McCredden ruled that the ball had “hit the post”, calling it a behind. The decision drew some frustration from the players, who felt it could have been the perfect capstone to Rogers‘ special day. Despite this, the team’s dominant performance ensured the milestone was still celebrated in style.
Issie Warrillow was up to her old tricks performing her tagging role to perfection and shutting down her opponent, ensuring she didn’t have an impact on the game.
The backline, led strongly by Kaitlyn Ritchie and Courtney Donoghue, were relentless all day long keeping Brunswick completely scoreless. They were rock-solid throughout the entire match and worked seamlessly together to repel Brunswick’s attacking efforts.
Overall, the women had a successful day out on the track and were able to secure a brilliant win in the final round for the season. The women have now officially secured 2nd spot and will head into the qualifying final next weekend. It is the first time since 2018 that the La Trobe women have qualified for finals.
Best players for the day went to Ella Lauritsen, Marleigh Andrews, Kate Bond, Jessica Lowry, Grace Molloy and Kaitlyn Ritchie.

Match Summary
Round 16 saw The Midday Show welcome top of the ladder Richmond Central to Tony Sheehan Oval for our final home game of the year.
The pre-game message was to bring the pressure and stifle The Snakes fast, hard running style of play. The first term saw the Trobers take it right up to the ladder leaders, with hard tackling and winning the contested footy by Sam “Scooba” O’Donnell and Sam Marasco-Liddell keeping us in the game. Key Forward Tirian “Tiz” Hillman was able to kick truly twice for the term to keep us within 10 points of Richmond at the quarter-time break.
The message heading into the second term was to continue working hard to maintain our pressure across the ground. Unfortunately, The Snakes were able to get a run on early and scored 3 unanswered goals to extend their lead. Some classy finishing from veteran wrecking ball Ernie Fan, and best on ground Austin “Aussie” Bennett saw us kick two goals to keep us within striking distance at half-time.
The third term saw much of the same, with Richmond’s explosive and hard running style making it hard for the back 6 to keep their forwards under wraps. The Trobers continued to fight hard led by our big Ruckman Cam “Suga” Marcroft we never shirked the challenge and kept pushing. A big mark in the goal square from wingman turned small forward Dylan Mitchell saw us kick our only goal for the term.
Due to the warm weather and strong opposition a side with less character would’ve just rolled over and let The Snakes have it all their own way in the final term, but the La Trobe Reserves boys are not built that way. With some hard running from Ben Freeman and Ben “The Code” Morse we were able to create a number of forward entries which led to goals to Tiz Hillman (his 3rd for the day) and Ruben “Roo” Cottee, who was moved forward after some friendly fire from Ernie Fan saw him a little worse for wear. The back six continued to battle hard with Mark “Mobbla” O’Brien and Laughlin Cargnali slowing down their twin towers. But what would be the highlight of the term would an Austin Bennett centre clearance that would see him show a clean set of heals to the oppo, take a bounce, dodge one bloke, weave around another and deliver the pill to Sam Marasco-Liddell who would slot his first goal as a Trober.
The Trobers ended up going down by 34 points, but the fight and spirit shown was fantastic against the top side. The end margin was also an improvement on our first time playing them, at their home ground, the aptly named Snake Pit, where we had lost by 59 points.
