Match Summary
The Senior Men faced third placed Power House on Ross Gregory Oval in St Kilda with plenty of motivation to take it right up to our much-fancied opponents on a sunny winter afternoon. Coach Andy Castles challenged the team to embrace the challenge, take risks and play with daring and freedom. The Reserves had displayed a strong, four-quarter effort and the lads were motivated to follow their lead.
The first 5 minutes was a tightly contested affair with a number of stoppages and much of the play between the arcs before the home team kicked 2 majors in quick succession. Cas marked strongly and guided our first through the big sticks but Power House responded with another 3 goals before Lachlan Webb added our second goal. The home team’s ability to clear the contest, run in numbers and deliver the ball inside their 50 was giving their forwards plenty of scoring opportunities. Cas was leading by example, added another 2 goals to make it 3 for the quarter, but Power House held a handy lead at the first break – 8.3 to 4.2.
The home side showed why they are sitting near the top of the ladder in the second term as they continued to defend and run in numbers to create multiple inside 50s. Nine unanswered goals had us right under the pump before the Swiss Army Knife Adrian Marulli and Co-Captain Sam Benetti-Baker added our only goals for the quarter. The term had been dominated by Power House and it was 18.5 to 6.3 at half time.
The second half was to be a real test of character and our Trobers never gave up the fight. While managing to limit their scoring opportunities we added 3 goals for the quarter to Webby (his second), Liam Walsh and Tate Spiteri. At the final break it was the home side leading 22.6 to 9.5.
The message in the huddle was to show that true Trober spirit and fight it out until the final siren. There was little scoring in the opening minutes before Cas shoed his fourth off the ground and through the big sticks to register the opening goal of the quarter. Spitta added his second goal while Power House had plenty of shots for plenty of behinds. At the final siren it was a comfortable 85-point win but our lads had never given up the fight!
Lachlan Webb, Hugo O’Callaghan, Xavier Scott, Jonty Randall, Luke Nelson and Sam Benetti-Baker were named in the best players.

Match Summary
Finals season is upon us and for the first time since 2018 the women entered a finals campaign and took on ladder leaders Therry Penola, in what was a free hit for the Trober girls as they finished 2nd so had a second chance if things didn’t go their way. Although the security of the second chance felt good, the women wanted to crush Therry in the first round. This didn’t quite go to plan and the women fell short of a win but the opportunity to learn and grow from the game was exciting.
The highlight of the day was seeing Stephanie “Casta” Castagnini return to the playing field after a 14-game absence due to a broken ankle that occurred earlier in the year. You would not have known that she had not played in so long as she did not miss a beat all day long. It was great to have you back Casta!!
The Trober women started the game super strong bringing it to Therry Penola. They had the lead at the first break (1.0.6 – 0.3.3). Ineka “Harty” Hart got the ball rolling for La Trobe in the first quarter when she kicked a “lit” set shot straight through the big ones. The defence was strong by the backline and held Therry to just the one major in the second quarter. At the main break, the Trobers were down by just 3 points (1.1.7 – 1.4.10).
The third quarter saw Therry come out hard and strong, adding 3 goals to their total and extending their lead to 16 points by the end of the quarter (2.1.13 – 4.5.29). Grace Molloy kept the Trobers hopes alive as she kicked a SUPER goal from the pocket – we will all just pretend that she was aiming for the goals!
In the final quarter, the women left everything on the field. Harty showed her pure determination and drive as she laid a ripping bump on a Therry girl that left her sitting on her arse. Kaitlyn Ritchie was once again rock solid in defence, teaming well with Courtney Donoghue and Casta to lead the defence in keeping Therry’s scores to a minimum. Jessica “JLo” Lowry proved once again that you do not need to be 7 foot to be a strong ruckman and competed really well against players who were much taller than her. Kate “Bondy” Bond continued her dominate performance as she was strong all day through the midfield, her hands are as elite as they come.
The star of the day was Issie Warrillow as she was given the task of tagging Therry’s best player and she excelled at this, keeping her to minimal possessions and limiting her impact on the game.
In the end it was not the result the La Trobe women were hoping for but they will take what they have learnt and move onto next week where they will take on De La Salle in the Preliminary Final.
Best players for the day went to Jessica Lowry, Kaitlyn Ritchie, Kate Bond, Isobel Warrillow, Teresa D’Angelo and Stephanie Castagnini.

Match Summary
The Midday Show came into Saturday’s game wanting to halt the momentum of a strong, 2nd on the ladder Power House side. We made the trip down to St Kilda, for what was a great opportunity for us to play a good brand of footy and test ourselves against one of the best.
The first quarter was an arm wrestle as the Trobers adopted a strong lockdown mindset, with a committed start needed to set the tone. The Austin Bennett led midfield brigade allowed some great work out of the centre as we entered the quarter-time huddle 2 points behind, after kicking 2 goals apiece.
In the second quarter, the message was the same as the Trobers continued on their way, with Cam ‘Suga’ Marcroft continuing to give our midfielders first use. La Trobe went blow for blow with Power House for the quarter as tensions began to rise as our much-fancied opponents began to show their frustration through ill-disciplined acts. Co-Captain Laughlin Cargnali implored the boys to not lower ourselves to their level and continue to attack the ball as we went into the main break with scores level.
After half time the game began to open, and their midfielders began to get their hands on it and deliver into their forward 50, this resulted in Power House kicking away to a 4 goal lead. The defence held up strongly led by Bailey Timms and Connor Burns who repelled multiple attacks against their much bigger opponents. We turned at the final change trailing by 19 points.
Stand in coach Cal Randall asked the side to finish off the game strongly, continue to straight line the ball and get some reward for effort. The midfield got to work again led by Ruben Cottee and Finlay Stewart who were both strong performers throughout the contest. We continued to cause trouble for the home team with Tirian ‘Tiz’ Hillman kicking a goal late taking his tally for the day to 4, and to reduce the margin to 13 points, but that was as close as we got, going down by 13 points at the final siren.
A strong 4 quarter performance from The Midday Show in what was one of the best performances of the year. A much-improved performance second time around after going down by 52 points in a heavy defeat at home earlier in the season.
Ruben Cottee, Connor Burns, Bailey Timms, Cameron Marcroft, Finlay Stewart and Austin Bennett were named as the best players.
Wishing a quick recovery to Mitch Collins who suffered a serious ankle injury and Sam Marasco-Liddell who unfortunately travelled to hospital to receive stitches to a busted lip. Go well boys!
