Round 4 Match Reports (2025)

The Midday Show hit the road again and headed to Whitehorse Road Reserve for its Round 4 clash with the Eley Park Sharks. The messaging from the Coaching staff was to maintain our discipline and put in a 4-quarter effort.

The game started strongly for the Trobers with the boys scoring a goal within the first minute after a clean centre clearance found Co-Coach Cal Randell on the lead for La Trobe’s first of the day. The Trobers established early control across the ground resulting in the first of four very heavy scoring quarters. Cal kicked 3 more to give him 4 for the quarter, Elliot Stevenson also bagged 2, one being a classy snap from the boundary. Skipper Austin Bennett, Mitch Wallace and Alex Crockford also kicked truly to help the Trobers end the quarter with a 57-point lead.

The second term saw much of the same as our Back 6, led by Josh Horder, rebounded any attempt by Eley Park to score and resulted in our forward line adding another 7 goals, Cal Randell kicked 2 to take his total to 6 at halftime, James Driffield also kicked 2 before an unfortunate shoulder injury ended his day. Bryce ‘Bruce’ Dowler, Elliot Stevenson and Austin Bennett also kicked truly to extend the La Trobe led to 108 points at the half.

The halftime messaging was to maintain our structure and discipline, and to finish off a strong performance. The third term saw even more one-way traffic as the Trober midfield, led by our big ruckman Cam ‘Suga’ Marcroft and Ruben Cottee, maintained their dominance around the ground resulting in even more heavy scoring with our full-forward Cal Randell being the main beneficiary kicking 6 for the term – even though one maybe classed as highway robbery getting a toe to a long Ruben Cottee shot on the goal line! Cal finish the quarter with his tally at 12 goals. We also saw Kyle Brizzi kick his first goal for the club, Elliot Stevenson slotted another to take this total for the day to 4, ‘Brucey’ kicked his second, and Ben Freeman would also kick a beautiful running goal, to extend the La Trobe led to 172 points at the final break.

As La Trobe lined up for the final term the question was how many would Cal Randell finish with? The answer was 19, as Cal had a mammoth last term kicking 7 goals. ‘Brucey’ Dowler kicked his third, Campbell Luck found himself at the opposite end of the oval as the reliable defender slotted his first goal for the club. Mitch Wallace added a second goal as a bit of extra reward for a good day across half-forward, and ‘Aussie’ kicked his third. When the final siren sounded La Trobe had walked away 243-point winners!
