Match Summary
The Senior Men were valiant losers against North Brunswick on Saturday at Allard Park, with a strong second half showing allowing for plenty to be excited about heading into the next block of games.
After a difficult match last weekend against Wattle Park, it looked a similar story as The Bulls kicked the first four of the game. A late first quarter goal to Mitchell Collins steadied the ship for the Trobers against a strong breeze, heading into the break facing a 26-point deficit.
The second quarter was a scrappy affair, with the only goal going to North Brunswick. The Trobers were unable to connect going forward, something they had to improve on in the second half.
Improve they did, able to halt The Bulls momentum and break even against the wind. Tirian Hillman took full advantage of the opposition’s growing frustration, kicking truly from a 50-metre penalty. Tate Spiteri’s goal before the three-quarter time break set up a grandstand finish, with North Brunswick leading by 32 points.
The fourth quarter was La Trobe’s best, having ten scoring shots to The Bulls’ single point. However, it was converting that proved the issue, with only two of the ten shots resulting in majors. Vice-captain Hugo O’Callaghan kicked one from right on the fifty-metre arc, before Jonty Randall ran into an open goal to give the Trobers a genuine chance with five minutes remaining.
Despite the second half surge, it wasn’t to be for the Senior Men. North Brunswick held on to win 7.13.55 to 5.12.42 on their home ground.
Jack Miller, Hugo O’Callaghan, Jonty Randall, Tirian Hillman, Luke Vaughan and Connor McCredden were adjudged best afield, with all six leading from the front throughout the day.

La Trobe Women pulled off a courageous 3-point win over Aquinas in a gritty, low-scoring contest at JW Manson Reserve, with the final score reading 2.3 (15) to 2.0 (12).
In what was a fiercely contested match from start to finish, La Trobe struck first through Shelley Tucker, who took a strong mark and slotted a composed set shot in the opening quarter. The pressure remained high throughout the first half, with both defences standing tall and space hard to find.
The third quarter provided the turning point. Claire Wilson delivered a moment of brilliance with a towering contested mark and a steady finish to give La Trobe their second goal. Aquinas answered late in the quarter with a goal of their own, setting up a tense final term.
Despite a surge from the home side in the final quarter, La Trobe’s defence held firm, repelling repeated attacks and preserving the slender lead to secure a memorable win!
This match held extra significance for the team as it marked the farewell game of Courtney Donoghue, a respected teammate and leader, who now embarks on a new chapter with the Australian Defence Force. Courtney’s contribution to the team, both on and off the field, has been immense — and she was fittingly sent off with a hard-earned win.
The victory not only keeps La Trobe’s momentum alive but also stands as a tribute to one of their finest.

Match Summary
The Midday Show was on the road again travelling to Allard Park to take on North Brunswick who were sitting inside the Top 4. The boys were energetic in the rooms as we welcomed back Co-Captain Connor Burns from injury.
Coach Cal Randell asked the boys to bring the pressure early and make a statement as The Bulls elected to kick with the 6-goal breeze in the first quarter. The Trobers’ unrelenting pressure and hunt of the opposition resulted in 5 holding the ball free kicks for in the first 7 minutes of the game. Big full back Ned Uren turned it on early with his heroic efforts saving a handful of certain goals. Mitch Wallace found some footy early as he kicked the first two of the game giving us a 1-point lead at the first break.
When we kicked with the breeze after the first break, we capitalised from some slick ball use from Ruben ‘Roo’ Cottee setting up some big marking from Josh ‘Hords’ Horder and Co-Captain Austin ‘Aussie’ Bennett kicking 2 goals apiece with Ernie Fan slotting one to total 5 for the quarter.
Twenty-five points up heading into the second half, North Brunswick were eager to make good use of the strong wind, as the Trobers, through some excellent high IQ footy from Nick Simons, Bryce ‘Doully’ Dowler and some clutch contested marking by Cameron ‘Suga’ Marcroft, we held the opposition to a measly 2.5 in the third and we led by 10 points heading into the last quarter. Ned Uren again saving our backsides with many contested wins resulting in half a dozen goals saved.
In the last quarter with the strong breeze, the game really opened up and no one was able to stop our run. Hords added 3 as he collected a bag of 5, Aussie was sure to do his best to fill the stat sheet ending with 4 of his own. Roo couldn’t help himself from missing out bagging two of his own in the last as we kicked 7 goals to a measly single behind to run out victors by 53-points and cementing 3rd on the ladder in the process.
